Port Augusta

4 augustus 2017 - Port Augusta, Australië

Hiii,

So the last time  I wrote we were still in Cairns, Queensland. At the moment we are in Port Augusta which is South Australia. To begin where I finished, we did sell the car! The guy bought it for a good price so we were really happy with that! But then what.... In Cairns without a car, so no extra rainforest trips anymore, can;t visit mila, can't drive to Darwin... But then I thought about something.. Relocation. Some car hire companies need people to drive their cars back to the city they came from. So I searched for it on the internet, and the next day we left Cairns and started our journey to Darwin!! The nothern territory with our new car. It was a really nice car/camper with a kitchen and bed in it but still tiny. We had to drive 3000km in 4 days. I was so happy that I can now cross the northern territory of my list! On the way we slept 3 nights next to the road.. and 1 night on a real camping with swimming pool and restaurant. We visited the mataranka hot springs and a waterfall. The hot springs were a real tourist hot spot but it was cool. the water was 34 degrees, crystal clear and an beautiful area. The waterfall was a hidden secret, but unfortunatly a family found it before us and were playing and screaming.

When we arrived in Darwin it was 33 degrees, Aaron didn;t responded to my text messages the hostel didn;t know about us or anything about Nomads interns which means we both had to pay for our stay. Lucky us, Darwin is the most expensive stay so far! As soon as we checked in and got our room we wanted to explore the town of Darwin. It was a nice street with lots of cafe's and restaurants. I walked in to Peterpan which is my enemy in the travel world of Australia but yea I just wanted to ask some questions, and not make a real booking. Jamie and I had the idea of hiring a car for 2 days. In Melbourne the cheapest one was 25 a day and the most expensive 70 a day. So we though oke it will be around 70$ here. But no the unreal reality came a life. 235!!! $ a day, and that price is not even with insurance. So yea that was way to much money and not going to happen. We wanted to visit kakadu np and litchfield np. But the australian citizens already said kakadon't and litchfield do. So we chose to do a day tour to litchfield + crocodile jumping what I really wanted to see. We were picked up at 6am and arrived at the Adelaide river very early, before other tourist would appear. Our tour guide was an extra ordinary (jamies word) type of man. On bare feet.. old clothing.. and a lot of knowledge. The river was his backyard and he studied the crocodiles since he was a young kid. He's friends with aboriginal people and knows their language, and he's friends with dogs and eagles. But yea the jumping crocs were amazing, you can't imagine what kind of animals they are untill you see them so close in their natural habitat. After the river cruise we went to the national park. The national park was not so special, in Australia they call litteraly every little tree, plant, are an national park. Butttt the waterfalls were very pretty. A nice refreshment and a beautiful view. We visited 3 different ones, I loved them all. I think since I am travelling Australia I love water way more than before. If it;s warm or cold I have the same thoughts every time,  I want to swim here cause this is my only chance, I can never swim here again. After the tour the bus driver dropped us off at the sunset night market. Ah I loved it there. It gave me the holiday feeling I wanted. The nice weather, beautiful sunset, lovely shops with jewellery, clothing, souvernirs and more, the food stalls. Untill we wanted to buy something and didn;t had money, and the ATM's weren't working..

The planning was to drive up to Darwin, find a job for a month or so, fly to Bali and then back home. But as soon as we arrived in Darwin I thought this is not going to happen.. Litteraly every one in the hostels were looking for a job.. Mum messaged here cousin Esther who lived in Port Augusta (south Australia) to see if she has some contacts in Darwin. And yes she had, she send me some numbers and told me that I could call them so we were really happy to have some personal phone numbers, it was a Sunday so the planning was to call them the next morning. Untill Esther said, if its not going to work out, you can come to me, stay here for a month, watch the kids and jamie can help me renovate the house. We would then get a place to live, food and pocket money. Even though it was not a lot of money to urn, I really liked the idea! From the beginning I wanted to visit here, but the plan changed and it was not on the driving route anymore. So this was my chance to still visit here! and bonus, to urn some money. I could meet my to little 'cousins' Nikki and Indy, cat Loulou and dog Coco. I didn;t even want to try calling the numbers and looking for a job, I wanted to travel to Port Augusta. We searched for tickets to fly there.. or tickets to go with a bus 'greyhound'. The greyhound would stop in Port augusta so that was perfect. Yes it was expensive.. The trip took us 2 days.. with smelly abo's... cold and warm.. airconditioning which made it so dry.. and half way we found out that we would arrive in the middle of the night instead of in the afternoon. Am/pm. Haha oops. esther arranged a taxi for us.. which wasn't  there when we arrived.. so called another one but yea we survived! and are with Esther and the kids now!

Jamie is painting the kitchen, I am trying to collect all the stuff of Nikki and Indy (which is hard if its not yours... don't what is right and wrong, what they want to keep and what not.. till so far I'm doing my best but it already happened that if I putted something away, in the shed or in the bin.. that Esther was looking for it the next day.. When the girls are here it's so much fun. They are lovely, wanted to have kisses and cuddles all the time. They also like Jamie and its so cute to see them cuddling and having fun together. When the girls are not around I am getting a bit lazy here.. having a home, couch, bed.. nothing to do around here.. I don't even feel like I'm in Australia anymore. Which is a bit weird but on the other hand a good switch! And in a month time we are going to Bali!!
